Dated<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

When replying to a letter, do not say "Thank you for your letter dated on ….."<\/i><\/b>. The correct expression is "Thank you for your letter dated …"<\/i><\/b> or "Thank you for your letter of …."<\/i><\/b>. We should not say dated on<\/i><\/b>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Discuss<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

It is not grammatically correct to say "I want to discuss about …"<\/b>. The word discuss<\/i><\/b> means "to talk about"<\/i><\/b>, so if you saydiscuss about<\/i><\/b>, you are really saying talk about about<\/i><\/b>. Same when you use the word mention<\/i><\/b>. Cut out the about!<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

For example:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Mary mentioned<\/b> that her report was overdue.
\n\tI want to discuss<\/b> the agenda for next week's meeting.
\n\tIn the workshop we discussed<\/b> the new rules for good writing.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Due to the fact that<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

This is a wordy expression and can simply be replaced by As<\/i><\/b> or Since<\/i><\/b> or Because<\/i><\/b>.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Enclosed herewith please find<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The only word we really need in this cliché is Enclosed<\/i><\/b>. It's so redundant to use herewith<\/i><\/b> – if it's not herewith, where the heck is it? Please find<\/i><\/b> implies it's like a game asking the reader to find something that's hidden. For 21st Century writing, throw out all the unnecessary wording.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Equipment<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The word equipment<\/i><\/b> is an uncountable noun and it should never end with an 's'. For example: We need some extraequipment<\/i><\/b> for our new offices. All the new equipment<\/i><\/b> has arrived. (use a singular verb) This equipment – the LCD, OHP and DVD – is needed in the Training Room.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Similar mistakes are made with words like luggage, baggage, furniture, information, clarification.<\/b><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Everyday\/Every day<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Everyday<\/span><\/i><\/b> is an adverb. Every day<\/i><\/b> are adjective and noun.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

For example:<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Making your bed is an everyday<\/b> chore.
\n\tI get the bus to work every day<\/b>.
\n\tHaving to write e-mails every day is an everyday<\/b> task.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
