Dear Reader,
As I write this month's newsletter, I'm exhausted but
very happy. I'm pleased to say that ASSAP 2008 was a
resounding success. The big day was 23 April 2008 at
the Swissotel Stamford in Singapore, and a
fabulous crowd of 220 experienced this energising
and empowering day. You can find my report on
ASSAP 2008 in the first article below.
Also this month, some tips from Nikhil Desai on
setting goals and planning for them. Nikhil is
conducting two exciting workshops with ST Training
Solutions in July, so do scroll down to find out more
about them.
I gave in to pressure this month and put my profile on
Facebook. You can check out
my
business page on facebook by following this link -
it would be great to see you as a 'fan'!
I hope you enjoy the merry month of May, and I'll be
back in June!

Where could you find 8 top International presenters
giving advice on how to build better relationships,
improve your personal brand, wow your bosses,
colleagues and clients, enhance your creativity, and
achieve your goals and dreams? That's easy! At
ASSAP 2008 - the Asian Summit for Secretaries and
Admin Professionals.
ASSAP 2008 on 23 April was attended by 220 excited
and eager participants from Singapore, Malaysia,
Indonesia and Vietnam. With the theme 'Forward
Moving', presenters encouraged participants to stay in
the driver's seat, keep their hands firmly on the
steering wheel, and their eyes to the future as they
move forward to reach their true potential.
Many sponsors and supporters offered lucky dips,
special prizes, chocolates, even quick massages, to
revive participants in between sessions, and several
presenters had their books on sale at special
discounts. Here's what one participant wrote about
ASSAP 2008:
"Everybody was so positive. I loved meeting new
people from other countries, plus the smiling
speakers were funny and so energetic. Great
conference!"
Very soon I will be sending you a link to some
fabulous photos and a highlights DVD from this
fabulous annual event, so do watch your mailbox for
this exciting update.

| The power of goals |

I'm pleased to bring you an article this month
written by Nikhil Desai. Nikhil will be running 2
workshops with ST Training Solutions in July - Enhance your Effectiveness at Work
on 8 July, and Time and Stress Management on 9
July.
It was Conrad Hilton, the founder of the world famous
Hilton chain of hotels, who said, "Success is made to
order". He was right - for an achievement is a sum
total of many things - talent, aptitude, knowledge and
desire. If we analyze each of our achievements, we
will soon discover that it all started with the goal that
we wanted to achieve. Well-defined goals, tackled with
competence and confidence through a proper plan of
action are the building blocks of achievements. They
are our escalators to tomorrow, a vehicle that takes
you to success.
Here are some of the important points to remember
when you go about setting goals and planning for
them. Put them all together and these are the five keys
for climbing higher in life. You can read more about
each step by following this link to the complete article.
1. Your goals should be "SMART", meaning:
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Realistic
Timebound
2. What ever you do, put your whole mind to it.
3. Be and act enthusiastic.
4. Take effective decisions.
5. Avoid procrastination.

April has been a very busy month for me. First of all I
moved into my new apartment. After many years living
in Singapore, I finally bought my own place, and here I
am on the patio with my cat Cookie. We all love it
here and are settling down very well in our new home.
You can
see more photos here. The second big event in
April was of course ASSAP 2008 - the Asian Summit
for Secretaries and Admin Professionals. Watch your
mailbox soon for photos and highlights DVD of this
fabulous event attended by 220 participants.

HOW'S YOUR EMOTIONAL HEALTH?
I'm very pleased to introduce you to a special
seminar series presented by eminent counsellor
Karen Gosling from Goslings International. In her
seminar series 'Surviving Life Dramas', Karen will
teach you how to re-interpret your life dramas to see
them as non-threatening - or at least manageable.
Would that help you start to feel more in control?
Surviving Life Dramas is about learning where
emotion comes from, giving emotion a label, and
giving yourself permission to have the stress
response as you determine what you are going to do
about it. Regardless of what other people know or
what other people say. This is about you
understanding you. More than anything, you will leave
these seminars understanding yourself better.
In her seminars, Karen will teach you how you can do
things differently, for example how to:
- communicate with your partner, kids or boss.
- raise your self-esteem and keep it elevated.
- overcome anxiety and deal with panic attacks.
- manage feeling down during times of change
- deal with disappointment or grief.
Find out more about Karen Gosling's unique
seminar series by checking out full details here. Or just call
up Goslings International on 6281-5157 and tell them
you heard about them in Shirley Taylor's newsletter.
Each half-day seminar costs only S$130, including
afternoon tea and snacks. I shall certainly be
attending some of Karen's seminars because I
consider they are a great investment in our emotional
health. I do hope to see some of you there! Very
often the most difficult step is the first step, so take
that important first step today towards your own
emotional health!
