Shirley Says E-Newsletter Issue 51
May 2007

Dear Reader,

This month I'm devoting my entire e-newsletter to bring you news about ASSAP 2007. After many months of planning, finally 25 April 2007 arrived and we had a FULL HOUSE at the Mandarin Ballroom at the Meritus Mandarin Hotel. Wow! What a sensational day it was! I'd like to thank all the participants, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, helpers, and everyone else who supported and helped out at ASSAP 2007. One comment made to me was that ASSAP 2007 had raised the bar and set a new precedent. That's what I hoped for in creating ASSAP, so I'm flattered and delighted with the positive feedback.

To everyone who has asked about ASSAP 2008! Yes, you can mark your calendar now with the date - 23 April 2008!
I suggest you sign up early! :-)

  • ASSAP 2007 was HUGE!

Thanks to these wonderful presenters, ASSAP 2007 was a sensational success. From left to right, first of all there's what's-her-name - yes, it's me! I opened up the day by saying we are each responsible for shaping our own future, and I pointed out that we all need something extra special these days if we are to get ahead - we need the 'X' Factor! Everyone spent some time discussing just what is this 'X Factor' and many useful definitions were given.

Jennifer Norris shared with us the common factor in all our stress today - ourselves! She gave everyone some inspiring tips on how to cope with stress in the office, and she shared with us some powerful tips on how we can control our own stress.
Alison Lester was our fabulous MC, who held the day together brilliantly with her great summaries and of course her humour. She also gave away lots of lucky draw prizes regularly!
Duncan McKee and his team turned the whole audience into an orchestra, and in 45 minutes they played Beethoven's 9th Symphony! It was a very powerful exercise in communication and teamwork!
Lily Koh told us that our image (clothes, grooming, body language) communicates volumes, even before we say a word. We are all now much richer for her advice on how we can manage our image, and how we can meet and greet with impact.
MJ Jennings shared her thoughts on the 3 V's, the Vocal, the Visual and the Verbal you - and she showed us how we can all be 'ACE Players'! She even gave everyone an ACE playing card to keep in our wallets as a reminder!
Gabriel Suppiah inspired us all by sharing his secrets of success. He brought all the ASSAP speakers on stage with him at the close of his session to share a very powerful moment with the audience.
Ricky Lien inspired us all by showing how we can all reach our own STAR potential, with many useful tips and anecdotes that will help everyone become an invaluable asset to their company!

The day finished with a 30 minute Open Forum where all speakers were put on the spot with questions from the audience. This proved to be a very popular part of the day. But not quite as popular as the Lucky Draw prizes!! Yes, we had almost $10,000 worth of prizes to give away in our lucky draw! Many many thanks to all our fabulous sponsors for your generosity!

    Thanks to Elite Sponsor OAG

I was very grateful for such a lot of support for ASSAP 2007. Our Elite Sponsor OAG gave all participants OAG Privilege Membership worth US$60 as well as 6 months membership of OAG Travel Planner. Here I am with Ali from OAG. It was great to have Ali and Jessica with us at our workshops too, and all our participants were keen to learn more about OAG and how they can help with all your travel planning.

    Colour printing by Konica Minolta

There aren't many conferences where you get notes in colour. I am very grateful to Priscilia and Corrine from Konica Minolta for all their hard work to make this possible.
Konica Minolta also printed all the wonderful posters and banners that were displayed all over the Mandarin Ballroom. Participants took home their own colour posters too, thanks to having their photos taken and printed on the spot on Konica Minolta's colour printer! Thanks to all Konica Minolta staff shown here at ASSAP for being a pleasure to work with.

    Thanks to Double A!

Thanks to Double A for joining forces with Konica Minolta by providing all the paper used for printing the ASSAP notes. We had a double helping of Double A because they also sponsored the fabulous Afternoon Tea at ASSAP 2007. Thanks to Fion and Corrinne and everyone at Double A for your huge support. It was great working with you ladies.

Alison, Ricky and Shirley's SOLD OUT Workshops!

Here I am with Alison Lester and Ricky Lien, my co- presenters at the ASSAP workshops. Workshop A was Successful Business Communication Skills with me and Alison Lester. Workshop B was Emotional Intelligence in the Office with me and Ricky Lien. The first workshops on 26-27 April sold out quickly, so we had to open up new dates on 7-8 May. I'm delighted to say that we received some fabulous feedback from almost 200 participants who attended these workshops.

Thanks to Alison and Ricky for all your help and support.
It's great to work with such entertaining and experienced communicators. I certainly learned a lot, and I'm sure participants did too!

If you missed either of these workshops, don't worry. They will now be run by LCI Executive Seminars, so if you are interested in finding out more, please call Sam Loo on
    6376 2018.

    Last but not least ...

Last but not least, ASSAP 2007 would never have been so well-organised if it hadn't been for Niki and Shamee. Laides, I couldn't have managed without your hard work and support. I truly appreciate all the help you've given me over the last few months, and I'm looking forward to continuing working with you both much more in the future. Big hugs XX

    Report on ASSAP 2007!

This is one of the photos of the 250 happy, smiling participants who attended ASSAP 2007 - the Asian Summit for Secretaries and Admin Professionals.
From all accounts I'm delighted to say it lived up to expectations, and it was certainly inspiring, innovative, empowering, motivating, and energising. Photos, highlights DVD and feedback comments will soon be posted on the ASSAP website, so I will let you know when you can check all this out!

Did you attend ASSAP 2007? I would love to hear what you thought of your experience. Please write to me at shirley@sttrainingsolutions.com.
