Dear Reader,
I am writing this month's e-newsletter from my home
town of Sheffield in England. I have been home here
for a couple of weeks nursing a fractured rib and
visiting my lovely Mum.
I'm looking forward to returning to Singapore very
soon and to getting back to work - so I hope to meet
more of you in my workshops later this month and
next. As I'm virtually in 'R&R' mode right now, I hope
you will forgive this somewhat shorter than usual
newsletter - back to normal next month!
See you again soon.

Thank you Thank you Thank you .... to everyone
(and there were LOTS) who sent me birthday
wishes. I was overwhelmed with all the
e-mails and e-cards, and can't thank you all
enough. Special thanks also to all my great friends
for putting on a fabulous birthday bash at Original Sin in
Holland Village - my favourite restaurant in Singapore!

When I was doing some research for my book Guide
to Effective E-mail, a friend of mine said:
When I receive a message that has lots of
mistakes - spelling errors, punctuation, grammar - I
think the reader has no respect for me because
he/she couldn't take just one minute to check it
through before hitting 'send'.
I completely agree! The Internet has made it possible
for us to communicate with people from all over the
world. The only way those people can form an opinion
of us is by looking at the way we write! Your
credibility could be ruined with one swift click of
the 'send' button!
There are 2 articles on my website about the
double-edged sword that is e-mail. I hope you will
check them out:

Many thanks to Mark Richman for e-mailing me to
point out that in last month's newsletter I forgot to
include the answers to June's quiz where I asked you
to complete some sentences with send or take or
bring or fetch.
Many apologies for the delay. Here are the answers
now:
- I would like to take you out for dinner
tonight
- My flight is at 7 pm today. Will you please
take me to the airport?
- When I see you later, will you bring that
book you borrowed last week.
- I will meet you at the airport tomorrow night, and
take you to your hotel.
- Please send your report to my e-mail
address before the end of this week.
- I would like you to send me a copy of
your new catalogue when it is published.
- I don't feel well. Will you please take me
to the doctor's clinic?
- Let's take Richard out to lunch on his
birthday next week.
- I always take my children to school
before I go to work every morning.
- Please fetch me some A4 paper from the
stationery department and bring it back
here.

problems in business writing, please click here and don't forget to try the
quiz too.

Thanks to Tom and Joe and all my friends on Rawa Island in
Malaysia for making my trip there in July so special.
It's always great to visit Rawa - it's beautiful,
peaceful, relaxing, and very very special - a true
paradise island!
