Dear Reader
Forgive me for being a tad late with Shirley Says this
month. May was a busy month, both socially and
professionally. Thanks to Pacific Internet for inviting
me to conduct a two-day in-house workshop on
business writing skills for your staff. I shall look forward
to our repeat run later this year. Thanks also to Sam
from Learner's Choice for arranging another successful
public workshop.
June looks like being another busy month, with some
in-house workshops on E-mail in Singapore, a trip
to Jakarta for some in-house and public workshops, plus
a public workshop in Singapore for JobsDB.
I'm also pleased to announce my new partnership - with
Partners
Conference and Event Management. I am looking
forward to your Forum on 19 June, and to conducting
public workshops with you in Thailand and Malaysia
later this year.
Enjoy your June, and please write to me at
news@shirleytaylor.com with your feedback on
Shirley Says or any special questions that you
would like me to answer.
Keep well and stay healthy!
Shirley

More and more companies are enquiring about my
workshop 'Enhance your E-mail Skills'. I guess people
are realising that my TIP OF THE MONTH in June is very
true:
The Internet has made it possible for us to
communicate with people from all over the world. The
only way those people can form an opinion of us is
by looking at the way we write! Your credibility could
be ruined with one swift click of the 'send' button!
SO MAKE SURE YOU LEARN TO WRITE WELL!
E-mail has become an essential and fundamental part of
the way in which businesses work. We can now
communicate globally with customers, staff, suppliers
etc, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Because of the
apparent ease of sending an e-mail message, computer
systems have been flooded with an excessive volume of
information. This great avalanche of e-mail is also
causing its share of problems. When e-mail is used
effectively it can be very powerful indeed. But when it
is used ineffectively it can be costly, annoying and it
can also damage a person's, as well as a company's,
reputation.
I've come up with some simple rules that I've called
NETIQUETTE. In personal relationships the conventions
of behaviour are called etiquette. In e-mail we have
NETIQUETTE - a set of rules for e-mail that have
evolved from experience. If you want to enhance
YOUR e-mail skills please check them out TODAY!

THIS MONTH'S QUIZ
Last month's quiz on appropriate tone in e-mail
messages was very popular, so I'm including a similar
quiz this month. E-mails are often typed and sent very
quickly, without paying much thought to appropriate
tone. Read this e-mail and consider how you
would feel if you were the recipient.
Then rewrite the e-mail in a more appropriate tone
that gives the message accurately but does not offend.
