Dear Reader
July was great in many ways. Top of the list was one
of the most memorable birthdays I've ever celebrated -
as you will see from my Birthday Princess photo! Many
thanks to everyone who took the time to send birthday
e-mails to me - I was very touched by all your
messages. Special thanks and lots of love to my
Singapore "family" who organised a fantastic evening at
my favourite restaurant, Original Sin in Holland Village.
Many thanks to Loretta and everyone at Original Sin for
making the evening so special. Take a look at these photos from my birthday celebration.
Unfortunately, my Mother in the UK was taken ill
recently, so this meant I had to postpone workshops in
Kuching and Petaling Jaya. My apologies to everyone
concerned for the inconvenience and disappointment.
However, I only have one Mum and she really needed
me at this difficult time. I promise I will make up for
this when I see you for the rescheduled workshops
later in August.
Enjoy August, keep well and stay healthy!

One of the questions I ask at all my workshops is "What
is the main purpose of any communication?" The
answer is not to sound impressive or to use long words
that no-one can understand! The main purpose is
to communicate clearly, to be understood and to be
effective - and that means to achieve
results from your writing. So how can you
achieve this?
One of the things you can do is to structure your
documents logically in accordance with my
4-Point Plan. I am glad that this was a popular
feature in my newsletter last month. It's something I
advocate in all my workshops, and I know it works.
There are many more simple steps you can take to help
yourself to communicate clearly through effective
business writing. Please click here to read my simple advice that
can help you to make sure your writing is understood -
and gets the right results!

July was a great month for training - thanks to StarHub
for our second run of my
2-day business writing workshop. I'm looking
forward our third round in September.
Thanks also to Asia Pacific Breweries for the one-day
workshop, and special thanks to Mark for the 2 crates
of Tiger Beer (it came in useful on my birthday!)
Thanks also to Great Eastern Life Assurance Co Ltd for
our first 2-day business writing workshop. Roll on
October and our second round. Special thanks to
Vivian, pictured here, who came up with this innovative
idea to remind herself of all the things she learned
during the 2-day workshop.
I hope you will all help me in my 'mission' to bring
business writing into the 21st Century.

I'm looking forward to working with my good friend and

very popular, interesting and thought-provoking.
