\nnormal\">We’ve all seen certain words misused. We are used to being reminded of the problems so many folks have with words like ‘their,’ ‘there,’ and ‘they’re,’ as well as ‘wear’ and ‘where.’<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

normal;\">\"6\"<\/a><\/span><\/span>Well, the other day a friend of mine was browsing the Internet and happened to run across a dating site. Just for fun, she read a few of the profiles and nearly died laughing when several fellows wanted a ‘discrete relationship.’ So, whether these will help you or the lovelorn out on the dating websites, here are a few more commonly confused words to watch out for.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nnormal\">Discrete\/ Discreet<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nnormal\">            Discrete<\/b> – separate and distinct<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            My honour and my ethics are not discrete characteristics.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            Discreet <\/b>– careful and unobtrusive<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            Let’s have a discreet relationship, because I don’t want my wife to find out.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\n\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">Remunerate\/Renumerate<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal;\">        <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            Remunerate<\/b> – to pay, like a wage<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            We remunerate staff at the end of each month.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nnormal\">Peak\/Peek\/Pique<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nnormal\">            Peak<\/b> – the point at the top, like the top of a mountain<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            Mt. Fuji’s peak was covered with snow.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            Peek<\/b> – a sneaky look at something<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            You’d better not peek at your presents.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            <\/i>Pique <\/b>– (n) irritation or (v) provoke<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            The little boy threw a fit of pique<\/i>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            This book has piqued my interest in nuclear physics.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nnormal\">            Nucular<\/b> – (This is not a word. It is a common misspelling of ‘nuclear.’)<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\n\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">Disc\/Disk<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\"> <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            Disc<\/b> – having to do with media like CDs, DVDs, etc.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            Hand me the software disc, please.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            Disk<\/b> – thin, round object<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            I think I have a slipped disk.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nnormal\">Faze\/Phase<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nnormal\">            Phase<\/b> – a specific period or stage<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            The flower is in its budding phase<\/i>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">

\nnormal\">Sight\/Site<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">
\n\t\t<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            Sight <\/b>– having to do with vision<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            The building was a real sight with all those decorations.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            Site<\/b> – a location<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">            The building was being constructed on a reclaimed dump site.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\nnormal\">The problem with some of these words and their misuse is that sometimes we don’t even know a different spelling or word exists. Hopefully you learned a new word or two and won’t make the mistake of having a discrete relationship on a dating sight.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
